Student Program Opportunities

Benefits of Our Student Program

We are committed to providing our students with quality supervision and education during placement. Therefore, a limited number of students are accepted into the program. Benefits of this program include:

  • structured observation experiences and/or (when applicable to major) clinical interactions with children and adults with emotional challenges, behavior challenges and/or developmental differences, including Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • interactions with members of our interdisciplinary team.
  • exposure to the development of agency programming for target populations.
  • assisting counselors, therapists, specialists and coaches.
  • exposure to clinicians’ processes for integrating evidenced-based theories and methods into clinical practice.
  • expanding a working knowledge in treatment strategies for varied populations such as positive behavior supports, mindfulness-based play therapy, music therapy, sand tray, zones of regulation, social thinking, “everyday lives” philosophy, the son-rise program, and the mandala assessment research instrument (MARI ®).

Practicum Eligibility Standard

Practicum opportunities are open to bachelor’s or master’s students in fields such as music

therapy, psychology, neuroscience, social work, and education. Students with majors in other fields are also welcome to apply. 

Internship Eligibility Standard

Internship opportunities are open to Master's level students in social work, marriage and family therapy, music therapy, and counseling programs.  

Applicant Acceptance

Students who apply for a placement at Spectra Support Services, LLC are not guaranteed acceptance into the program. Interested students must meet our eligibility standards, submit a formal application, and participate in interviews when invitations are extended. A student position offer is contingent upon the following:

  • Students actively earning a degree in social work, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, music therapy, marriage and family therapy, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Signed acceptance letter.
  • 3 Pennsylvania Background Clearances completed along with our health screening requirements. 
  • Active Affiliation Agreement between Spectra Support Services, LLC and the student's college.
  • Proof of liability insurance (contact your academic supervisor to learn who your college designates as the responsible party for maintaining liability insurance). 
  • Students must be able to commit to a schedule as designed by the supervisor based on client availability.
