Music therapy at Spectra supports expression, connection, and growth through compassionate, person-centered care.
At Spectra Support Services, our music therapy program supports Everyday Lives by helping individuals express themselves, build skills, and thrive. Through instruments, songwriting, movement, imaging, and listening, we create meaningful pathways for self-expression, communication, emotional development, and social connection.
Guided by Pennsylvania’s ODP Everyday Lives: Values in Action, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live fully, discover new possibilities, and form meaningful relationships. Our compassionate, person-centered care is delivered by cross-trained music therapists specializing in co-occurring developmental and mental health needs.

Music therapy is the clinical, evidence-based use of music by a credentialed therapist to support individualized goals based on assessed needs—not musical ability. At Spectra, we use music to address emotional, social, cognitive, and physical needs through experiences like creating, singing, moving to, and listening to music. By engaging both the creative right brain and analytical left brain, music therapy promotes well-being, self-expression, skill-building, and meaningful connection for people of all ages and abilities—tailored to each person’s strengths and everyday life.
Our music therapists support individuals across the lifespan—children, adolescents, adults, and older adults—including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, mental health needs, co-occurring diagnoses, or medical conditions.
Music therapy can support a wide range of goals based on individual needs, including self-development, managing anxiety or panic attacks, coping with depression, stress management, addressing behavioral challenges, emotional identification, improving social skills and communication, navigating family dynamics, job or career concerns, processing loss and grief, supporting individuals with disabilities, and coping with medical trauma.
At Spectra, our therapists guide participants in discovering how to use the skills they already have. While some programs may focus solely on rehearsing a skill, our providers aim to go further. They assess and identify underlying challenges—such as anxiety, sensory sensitivities, overstimulation, or needing extra processing time—that may be holding someone back from using the skills they know. Using creative, music-based strategies, therapists help participants address these barriers, practice adaptive skills in therapy, and develop ways to apply those skills in everyday life.
We offer individual, group, and family-based music therapy sessions, allowing therapy to be tailored to each person’s needs, goals, and preferences.
No musical experience is needed—our music therapists help everyone discover their own musicianship. Sessions focus on expression, connection, and growth, not performance. Musical experiences are adapted to each individual’s strengths and interests, allowing creative self-expression, skill-building, and meaningful connections that are accessible to all.
Sessions may include playing instruments, songwriting, movement, improvisation, recording, directing, listening, guided imagery, or other personalized music experiences—designed to meet each person’s goals, strengths, and interests.
Music therapy promotes choice, self-expression, skill development, relationships, and meaningful participation in everyday life—aligned with Pennsylvania’s ODP Everyday Lives: Values in Action.
Our services are provided by board-certified, cross-trained music therapists with expertise in supporting individuals with I/DD and co-occurring mental health needs. Many have advanced training in behavior supports, and some hold licenses in mental health therapy. Our program is distinguished as a NADD-certified program, reflecting our commitment to excellence in dual-diagnosis care.
Music Therapists work together with individuals by listening closely, exploring their interests, and providing opportunities for choice and goal-setting through tailored music-based experiences. This approach creates a shared space where every voice is heard, valued, and actively guides the session.
Sessions are offered in a variety of settings to meet the needs of the individuals we support.
Our primary location is our Broomall office, providing a welcoming and fully equipped space for therapy. We also bring services directly into the community, including adult day programs, schools, and residential centers, to ensure accessibility and continuity of care. For those who benefit from support in their own environment, select in-home sessions are available, allowing therapy to occur in a familiar and comfortable setting.
We proudly serve the Delaware County region, including Broomall, Havertown, Springfield, Drexel Hill, Newtown Square, Media, Lansdowne, Swarthmore, Elwyn, and neighboring towns.
Spectra offers both private pay and funded opportunities for music therapy services.
We are pleased to provide in-home and remote music therapy through Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services (DHS) Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) waivers, including PFDS, Community, and Consolidated waivers. Eligible individuals may be able to use their waiver funds for music therapy services—please contact us to learn more.
Additionally, we are an approved provider for children and youth under Delaware County’s Community Care Behavioral Health (CCBH) HealthChoices Medicaid, making high-quality therapeutic care accessible to families in need.
Contact us to begin the intake process. We will reach out to learn more about you, review your funding options, and provide information on next steps. All participants will take part in a music therapy assessment to determine if this service is the right fit and to identify individualized goals and recommendations for support.
